First cut of the new lawn

Having spent hours watering the new lawn, to make sure the turf  “took” and waited to make sure that it really had done so, the grass had grown long and it was time to cut it.

It needed doing when I got back from my holiday, but I was rather busy on the first two days, so had to start on the day the boiler was fitted, as rain was threatened later in the week.  In fact getting out of the house when the heating was on full was quite a good move.

It was “quite” hard work, having grown so long and it was wet lower down as the sun had not been able to get to the bottom.  My lawn mower is of the manual variety, so the cutting was better exercise than going to the gym.

I was not quite sure if I was cutting the grass or just squashing it, half the time.

By the end of that day I had done half of it, in small chunks at a time.  I was mostly in the shade while doing it, so didn’t get too overheated.

The rest had to wait until the next day.

The next day was rather hotter but rain was threatened for the following day so I had to get on with it.  Again I had to do it in bits but the sun was on me for much of the time and I ended up exhausted, soaking with perspiration and probably smelly – even more than at the gym.

But it did get cut – and it did rain the next day.  The second cut is better…..

I might be able to get stripes by next time.

Was it worth it?  Definitely – both for the exercise and the improved appearance.  If it doesn’t rain too much i should now be able to keep it in order.  And it looks so much better than the gravel.
