Go to an athletics match

As my great nephew was competing, after going church I went along to watch (part of) an athletics match for the Wessex region. I know the track well as it is part of the school field at the place where I used to teach. The weather was good so I enjoyed sitting and chatting to my niece and great nephew as we had our picnic lunches.

Spectators at the match

While doing that he showed me some of the stop motion videos he has been putting together. They were on his phone and it was too light to see them well, but he has now put them on his YouTube channel and they are great fun!

When it was time for him to do the high jump we moved so we had a better view.

Waiting to start the high jump

There were a couple of other lads who aren’t in the picture but they were doing the 800m race so had to do their attempts when they had finished that – not totally fair as they would be tired after the race.

Got over that height!

In fact my great nephew won! His height does help, but maybe he takes after his grandmother who used to do high jump?

It was a very pleasant afternoon and I was pleased to hear that the relay team he was in also won their race.

So? More fun than a school sports day – my previous experience of athletics!

  1. I didn’t do serious high jump where you throw your body over. It was just jumping over a bar.
