Take a short break – I

My holidays were cancelled this year but I decided I still needed a break when I wouldn’t have to make meals or do shopping or think about anything much, so I booked 4 nights “Self-guided Walking” at Lulworth Cove. As book-in time was not until 4.0 p.m. on the Monday, I decided to go earlier…

Haircut, gym and library

Really exciting – all the things I have missed most and been waiting for, happen in one week! Haircut first. Ring bell (not just walk in); wear face mask; wash hands on entering; wear plastic apron not usual gown – but then much as normal – but all hairdressers and assistants were wearing face shields….

Face-masks, blackberries and Church

As face masks have become mandatory in shops I knew that the ones I had bought would not last long, (I will save them for hairdressers, doctors etc) so it was a choice of buying some washable ones or making some. I decided on the latter – then if they didn’t work I could buy…

Nephews

I have two nephews. This is what one has achieved during lockdown. The other one tells me he shaved his head 2 months ago (hair has grown again since) and has been working for his finals and achieved a first class honours degree from Oxford University! Later…. Both nephews thought I should add to this……

The End of the Beginning?

So we are now allowed to visit other people, even inside, while trying to keep a “social distance” and also visit hairdressers, cafes and pubs. What a good thing I have finished my jigsaw (except the missing piece). And also my book. My diary, instead of being blank pages is starting to have things in…

Week 14 from start of lockdown

Rather a hot week! So much so that I found a peanut growing in one pot – probably planted by the squirrels. There do seem to have been a lot of butterflies around too – mostly seen on my walks but also the large (cabbage) white in my garden. I have identified large and small…

Weeks 12 & 13 from Lockdown

Things continue much as before – not doing very much different…. I did get my first beans from the garden and some more radishes, including my first yellow one. That came from a packet with mixed types but I can’t tell what I am getting as I thin them out so I am not sure…

Twin my Taps

As part of Toilet Twinning, tap twinning is an initiative from Tear Fund. The idea is to twin ones tap with one in another country and the money goes to provide and support teams working to improve hygiene, sanitation and water supply, especially to combat the COVID 19 Pandemic. One gets a card to display…

Eleventh week from start of lockdown.

Not done much this week (do we ever at the moment?) but have concentrated on the jigsaw of Red Square in Moscow – and got it finished on Friday morning. I still had problems with the last 9 pieces, but solved that by moving 2 neighbouring pieces which had been wrong. Also on Friday I…

Week 10….

Week 10 starts with another sunny day and when I came out of the bathroom after brushing my teeth who should I find on the landing but Harvey – the cat from next door! After having a good look in all the rooms, and when I threatened to pick him up, he was persuaded to…
