Well a lot of regular activities seem to, anyway, so we have to invent different things to do. What has that been this year then?
We were going to do our usual trip to Bournemouth but I got COVID on the day we were going and we haven’t found a suitable day since, as I don’t like going in the school holidays.
There was a homegroup barbeque as no homegroup in the summer so it was a good social occasion and gave us all a chance to catch up. We had good weather for that, too which was a positive.
A friend and I went to Godshill in the New Forest and did a shortish walk – there were loads of ponies. We then went for coffee at the Fighting Cocks. The weather wasn’t so good – not raining but not quite dry either and the coffee was disgusting! Don’t know what they did to it but it didn’t taste right. I finished mine, but my friend left half hers.
A couple of times we walked into town for a coffee and minor purchases by the longer route, via Broken Bridges and the Town Path. The first time that was 3 of us and a dog but just two of us the second time. The swans have produced a lot of cygnets this year – is it 11, 12 or 13?

One Sunday afternoon, a friend who is a nurse and does some teaching (other nurses, doctors, whoever..) at the hospital took two of us up to see the mannikins that they use for teaching. She had described them as being able to be used for various procedures and the friend going with us was interested to see them – she was already inventing stories…. The first one we saw was a body model of an elderly woman – and had all the wrinkles, skin blemishes etc of the woman she had been modelled from. She was actually quite creepy. The others were a bit less life-like and had holes and flaps to insert cannulas or injections or whatever scenario they had been set up to teach. There were various body sizes – including a baby that could be “born” – and various heads and wigs as well. Interesting, but quite creepy, as I said and I am glad I don’t have to learn that stuff. On the other hand, I am glad the medical people have some fairly life-like models to practise on!
There was another family Lego event, but not many families came so it was quite peaceful.
A friend had a birthday so 3 of us went out to The Fox and Goose at Combe Bissett for a meal, to celebrate. We like the meals and place, so it is a regular for birthdays.
Then we have our regular coffee on a Wednesday morning for people who used to go to SP2 Café before it closed. That is at Bishops Mill, but during the summer, people who are usually busy on a Wednesday are able to come. I think the record was 10 people.
So? We mostly manage to fill the time, one way or another… Maybe too much coffee and chat?
