Make up for missing my cream tea!

As my train was very delayed on going up to the Peak District I missed my cream tea on arrival day. When the train company gave me a refund of half my fare, I decided that I would use part of it to go and have a cream tea with a friend.

We chose to go to Mompesson House in the Close as we could walk there and we could use our National Trust cards.

Mompesson House and garden

It turned out to be a good choice as we had a table outside in the garden but in the shade; it was sunny and warm; we had a pleasant view of the house and garden and we got there in time to get the cream tea before they were all gone. (There was only one scone left after we had taken ours!) We had a scone with jam – blackcurrant for my friend and raspberry for me – and clotted cream and a pot of tea that provided 6 cups i.e. three each. All payed for by Cross-Country Trains!

So? A winner, as a much better cream tea than provided in the Peak District as the scones were much lighter and the surroundings were also more attractive than the lounge at the hotel! Also excellent company!!
