An afternoon at the theatre

I hadn’t been to the theatre for a while so I looked at the program for the Playhouse and found something I thought I might enjoy: “Brief Encounter” by Noel Coward, but made into a stage musical by Emma Rice. I have never seen the film but know about it.

I persuaded a friend she would like to come with me and booked tickets – then discovered I had booked a time she was working so had to change them! When I actually compared the date with my diary I found it was Easter Saturday, and a matinee, but decided that would be OK.

Ticket

We arrived on time and found the performers were playing some of the music in the foyer – a bit loud in the enclosed space, actually.

The play was good fun and amusing – well, it was Noel Coward. It had the added advantage of no sex, no violence and no bad language – but then those were some of the reasons for choosing it! The performers were pretty talented – they not only had to act and sing and dance, but they all had to play an instrument as they were the orchestra as well. And in addition they had to move props on and off so had to have plenty of energy!!

Inside the program

The stage setting was clever with a curtain that enclosed a round space and was also used to project scenery and videos onto. That included quite a lot of trains going through the station – well, it would, with Brief Encounter. I did like the trains!

So? An enjoyable afternoon!
