What to do after a double cataract operation while waiting to get new glasses

Reading glasses

Having had the operation I can see everything a bit, but neither distance or close up are clear. I bought some (cheapish) reading glasses which make reading possible, but they are not perfect so strain my eyes a bit if I read for too long. After going to the optician I am told I still have an astigmatism, so it is no wonder my vision is blurred and causing eye strain!

I can’t drive, so that means no gym. Yes, I could walk there and back, but not if I am using the gym between the two walks!

I can knit, so the jumper I am making has made progress. I can also do jigsaws, mostly, but matching pieces is not always easy.

The manager of a friend has apparently got bags of knitted squares waiting to be made up into blankets – for the hospital intensive care, I believe. They are not full size blankets but add a bit of colour, I suppose, but I am not really sure what they are for! I acquired a bag of “squares”, used YouTube to learn how to crochet them together and have started to make up blankets. I can see well enough to do crochet and I can listen to the radio or something from BBC Sounds while doing it. The squares are quite variable – some are definitely rectangles, the sizes are different (I think they are supposed to be 6″), some are stocking stitch, some garter stitch and some have patterns knitted into them! Sewing in the ends that haven’t been sewn in is the first job, then arranging colours and shapes to make the blanket and then one can start joining them together. A crochet edge is the final part. The wool ran out on the edge of my first one – half a square before the end! I had to take it all back and do a narrower edge.

Two completed blankets – I only joined the squares

I was worried about the car not being driven, so a friend and I took it out – she was driving! We were aiming to go to Langford Lakes, but neither of us had looked up the route before we went so we failed to take the correct turning! We aimed to go back, but got onto the A303 so went to Stonehenge instead. It did what we needed – gave the car a good drive, gave us a place to buy coffee and have a walk -from the visitor centre to the stones and back. The weather was good so we enjoyed the walk and had a good morning.

The weather having improved it has also been possible to do some bits of gardening.

So? I have found things to do but I am quite bored…. Roll on the new glasses!
